Dediapada, Sagbara, and Tilakwada in the Narmada district recorded nearly 452 mm, 307 mm, and 305 mm of rainfall, respectively, in a period of 10 hours from 6 am to 4 pm, along with Umerpada in Surat that recorded 354 mm of rainfall, on Monday morning as districts in Central and South Gujarat continued to experience heavy rain.
As a result of flooding in Central and South Gujarat, which was the worst affected by heavy rain that hit many districts of the state on Sunday, hundreds of people were evacuated from flooded areas and seven people died.
Since June 1, 63 individuals have perished in situations due to the rain, according to state Revenue Minister Rajendra Trivedi. The worst-affected districts in terms of rainfall and destruction were Chhota Udepur and Valsad.
According to the weather service, heavy rain is anticipated to persist in the Narmada and Surat districts on Tuesday as well. Up until July 16, rain is predicted across the state.
After a landslide on Monday evening, the interstate border that runs through Dang’s Saputara Hills and connects Gujarat and Maharashtra was shut down.
Bhavin Pandya, the Dang District Collector, said in a statement that a landslide owing to heavy rain at 4.30 p.m. blocked the road leading to the border checkpoint. The repairs won’t be finished by tonight due to the constant rain. An alternative route from Waghai to Samghan to Manmodi to Saputara has been provided.
Since the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall warning for Tuesday, as many as 198 talukas in the state have seen heavy rain as of Monday morning. Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad are all on red alert.
According to State Revenue Minister Rajendra Trivedi, more than 460 individuals were evacuated from flooded areas in a single day, bringing the total number of people in rescue camps to 3,821.
“From June 1 to July 9, a total of 56 people perished in rain-related events. Seven additional people have perished in the last day, bringing the total to 63, according to Trivedi, who was briefing the media in Gandhinagar.
