Pakistan: Imran Khan faces arrest in connection with foreign funding case
According to sources, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) of Pakistan has made the decision to detain former prime minister Imran Khan if he does not show up for the investigation committee hearing or answer to the notices over the illegal funding case.
According to The News, the agency will get permission from a court of law before arresting Khan in order to learn more about the party funds and accounts.
The sources stated that “the final decision to arrest the PTI chairman might be made after issuing three notifications.” On Friday, Khan received a second notification from the FIA.
The News said that after receiving the first notification on August 10 and being asked to come before the FIA investigative team to present information about the party funds and accounts, the former premier declined to do so. Five additional PTI firms that were not mentioned in the reports sent to the FBR and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had been traced, according to the sources.
They added that the FIA had gathered their audit reports and that the companies in question operate in the US, Australia, Canada, the UK, and Belgium, according to The News.
The PTI leader has been asked by the FIA Banking Circle to submit information about the bank accounts on numerous occasions, but Khan, through his attorney, maintained he was neither accountable to the FIA nor could it compel him to do so, according to the sources.
They continued by saying that the PTI leader had threatened to sue the FIA if the notice was not withdrawn within two days.
The third and likely final notice would be sent next week, far before the end of August, the sources claimed, adding that “the FIA committee has collected enough evidences to prove Imran guilty of hiding the factual status from the ECP.”
