The health ministry announced on Saturday that the first case of monkeypox had been confirmed in Indonesia.
With 15 confirmed cases as of August 5, neighbouring Singapore reported its first incidence of monkeypox last month. The Philippines and Thailand have both reported occurrences elsewhere in Southeast Asia.
In more than 80 nations where the virus is not endemic, the World Health Organization has declared a global health emergency due to the more than 40,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox, which include a few fatalities.
Since its breakout in May of this year, monkeypox has become a major global threat. Globally, the number of instances is growing, and so is public anxiety. According to a report issued on August 17th by the director-general of the World Health Organization, more than 35,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 92 countries and territories, with 12 fatalities (WHO).
