Himachal Pradesh on high alert as weather department predicts heavy rains till July 12
The government of Himachal Pradesh placed the 12 districts’ administrations on high alert on Saturday due to the weatherman’s forecast for heavy rains over the next three days. On Friday, an orange alert was issued for the following day by the regional meteorological office in Shimla.
With average to above-normal rainfall over the past week, the monsoon has continued to be active in Himachal. Rainfall ranging from light to heavy and the activity was pretty broad. According to Surender Paul, director of the Shimla MeT centre, “Isolated locations in Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, and Solan have had two bouts of heavy rain.
The state has received a warning for heavy rains through July 12. On Sunday, widespread moderate to heavy rains are expected in Sirmaur, Solan, Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra, Hamirpur, and surrounding areas, including Shimla town. The rainfall activity is predicted to persist and intensify in HP.
