IAF Chopper Engaged in Search On For 12 Missing And 7 Found In Forest Near China Border
17 days after they were said to have fled from a road construction site close to the Indo-China border, the seven missing Assam workers were discovered in a forest in Arunachal Pradesh.
Seven of the 19 Assam workers who have been missing for 17 days were discovered on Friday in a deep jungle in the Kurung Kumey district of Arunachal Pradesh, according to officials. They are thought to have fled from a road construction site close to the Indo-China border.
The personnel is receiving medical attention at a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) medical facility. Their reported health status is steady. To find the other 12 missing workers, the Indian Air Force (IAF) began an air survey on Saturday morning.
The laborers, who were working for a private contractor at a BRO road construction site in Huri in Damin Circle of the district, reportedly left their job site on July 5 after being denied permission to go see their family in Huri for Eid-al-Adha celebrations.
Karan Kholie, district disaster management officer of Kurung Kumey, said over the phone from Koloriang, the district capital, “Local villagers in Damin first located four of the missing workers and later traced three others inside a dense jungle roughly 20-25 km from their work site in Huri.”
Koloriang, which is 249 miles from Itanagar, the state capital, is located approximately 109 kilometers from the work site in Huri. It is about 80–90 km from the China–India border.
“To the best of our knowledge, the workers’ overall health is steady, despite the fact that they were discovered in a fragile state. Their health is being monitored by doctors at the BRO facility. We don’t yet know the names of the workers who were located because the communication network in Damin is so inadequate,” said Kholie.
In order to avoid being discovered by their contractor, the workers said they split into two groups after leaving the job site and chose to travel to Assam on foot via the forests. But they quickly got lost. How they managed to live for so many days is unknown.
District officials didn’t learn about the missing employees until July 13 as a result of communication problems, at which point search efforts were started. One missing worker’s body was reportedly discovered along the Furak river on July 18. However, a site inspection by officials discovered it to be a hoax.
Locals might have mistaken a wood for a body after seeing it. Currently, 26 members of the state disaster reaction force (SDRF) are participating in search activities, and we have asked the centre to send more NDRF troops (national disaster response force). To find the remaining 12 missing workers, one IAF helicopter from Tezpur in Assam began searching on Saturday morning, according to Kholie.
