IED Bomb Recovered at NPPs Office Shillong; HNLC Claims Responsibility

On Monday afternoon, an improvised explosive device (IED) bomb was discovered at the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) office in Shillong’s Lower Lachumiere region.

Police sources confirmed the recovery, saying the bag had been seized by the bomb squad and an investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC), a proscribed terrorist group, has claimed responsibility for the bombing. Sainkupar Nongtraw, the publicity secretary for the HNLC, rushed to Facebook to claim responsibility for the incident.

According to NPP leaders, they discovered the abandoned bag at 2.30 p.m., alerted the police, who arrived on the scene and roped off the area.

The device was discovered during Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu’s visit to Shillong to lay the groundwork for renovating a road that runs along the Indo-Bangladesh border between Shillong and Dawki town.

After police discovered the IED explosive, a bomb team was dispatched to the scene.
