In a first, the BJP enters the Congress stronghold in Gujarat's Borsad, ending a 60-year drought
Gujarat election results are now being counted. However, the current trends suggest that BJP would easily defeat Congress with a majority of more than two-thirds. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a recent entry, is expected to finish with fewer than ten votes. The BJP has already taken over 150 of the 182 seats while the votes are still being counted. The party has never experienced a victory like this in Gujarat.
Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has seen a comprehensive and record-breaking seventh term for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Numerous records were broken at the party, including some of its own. Ramanbhai Solanki of the BJP has achieved a new feat by winning the Borsad constituency in the Anand district. The party has now won the seat for the first time since it was founded in 1962, breaking a 60-year winning streak.Solanki prevailed over his closest rival, Congressman Rajendrasinh Parmar, in a closely contested race. According to an update from the Election Commission, Parmar received 80,607 votes, while Solanki received 91,772. Manish bhai Patel, a candidate for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), struggled to get more than 2,003 votes.
Borsad, a lush area in Charotar that carries Sardar Patel's legacy, had long been an impregnable stronghold for the Congress.
Rajendrasinh Parmar held the position as an MLA for two terms. He beat BJP candidate Nayaben Solanki in 2012, but he defeated Ramanbhai Solanki in 2017.
Bharatsinh Madhavsinh Solanki, a leader in the Congress and a former state party president, won this seat three times in a row for the Congress in 1995, 1998, and 2002. While Madhavsinh Solanki, his father and the previous chief minister of Gujarat, won the seat in the 1990 general election. Gujarat election results are now being counted.
