In Tanzania, a passenger plane crashes into Lake Victoria

Attempts are being made to save all on board after a plane carrying 43 passengers crashed into Lake Victoria in Tanzania early on Sunday as a result of terrible weather just before it was scheduled to land in the northwest city of Bukoba, according to authorities.

At Bukoba airport, provincial police chief William Mwampaghale informed reporters that "there was an accident involving a Precision Air plane which... went into water around 100 metres from the airport."

The flight from the commercial hub of Dar es Salaam to the lakeside city in the Kagera district carried 43 individuals, including 39 passengers, two pilots, and two cabin crew, according to regional commissioner Albert Chalamila. As of right now, 26 individuals have been saved and transferred to our referral hospital, according to Chalamila.

He stated that the rescue effort was still in progress and that he and the pilots were in communication. He went on to say that more information would be released later.

The biggest private airline in Tanzania, Precision Air, issued a brief statement acknowledging the mishap.

The airline announced that a rescue team had been sent to the location and that more details would be made public in two hours.

As rescuers went into water to save individuals, video footage of the incident was shown on local television.

With the use of cranes, emergency personnel tried to raise the aeroplane out of the water using ropes.

The accident's victims received condolences from President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

As the rescue effort goes on, let's maintain our composure and pray to God for assistance, she wrote on Twitter.

Since its founding in 1993, Precision Air has operated domestic and regional flights as well as private charters to well-known tourist locations like the Serengeti National Park and the Zanzibar archipelago. Kenya Airways owns a portion of Precision Air.

Five years ago, a jet owned by the safari business Coastal Aviation crashed in northern Tanzania, killing 11 people.

Six minutes after takeoff in March 2019, an Ethiopian Airlines aircraft from Addis Ababa to Nairobi crashed into a field southeast of the Ethiopian capital, killing all 157 persons on board. All 114 people on board a Kenya Airways flight from the city of Abidjan in the Ivory Coast to Nairobi in Kenya's capital in 2007 perished when the aircraft crashed into a swamp shortly after takeoff.

Minutes after takeoff, a different Kenya Airways flight from Abidjan to Nairobi crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 2000, killing 169 people and saving only 10.
