India successfully test-fired a Brahmos missile with upgraded capabilities on Thursday.
Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles with greater indigenous content and improved performance were successfully test-fired at 10.30 a.m. from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur off the coast of Odisha, according to a statement from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
Brahmos Aerospace carried out the launch in close collaboration with DRDO teams.
The flying test is a significant step forward for the Brahmos programme. All mission goals were attained as the highly manoeuvrable missile glided at supersonic speed for its maximum range.
The missile was outfitted with cutting-edge indigenous technology and flew a modified ideal trajectory for increased efficiency and performance.
The missile’s control system has been tweaked to improve its performance.
All range instrumentation sensors, including telemetry, radar, and electro-optical tracking systems placed throughout the eastern coast and downrange ships, were monitoring this flight test.
The test was attended by teams from DRDO and NPOM Russia.
The powerful, highly adaptable BrahMos has been continually upgraded by Brahmos Aerospace, a joint venture between India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPOM, to improve its effectiveness and lethality against sea and land targets.
Brahmos is the potent missile weapon system already inducted into the Armed Forces.
The successful flight test was praised by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who praised the Brahmos, DRDO teams, and industry.
