India now has 2,630 instances of the novel coronavirus strain, up 495 Omicron in a single day. With 797 cases reported, Maharashtra leads the way, followed by Delhi with 465 infections. The first recorded victim of the new Covid strain is a 73-year-old man from Rajasthan. According to the government, the man was fully vaccinated and had no substantial contact or travel history, but he had numerous other ailments.
Daily Covid cases have nearly quadrupled since the beginning of the year, with the country reporting 90,928 infections, up 56% from yesterday’s 58,097 instances. Apart from Delhi and Mumbai, the Union Health Ministry has listed Kolkata, Chennai, and Bengaluru as some of the primary areas of concern, however, state officials are concerned that the disease would quickly spread to rural areas with fewer health services.
