Iran unleashes its violent rage on its youth as protests fails to stop it

Iran's youth have suffered greatly as a result of the government's ruthless assault on protests for social freedom and political reform that have wracked the nation for the past two months, according to lawyers in Iran and human rights advocates acquainted with the cases.
While the country's intelligence minister and army leader reinforced threats against local dissent and the international community, protests in Iran continued on the streets as protesters remembered a violent crackdown in the country's southeast.

According to Human Rights Activists in Iran, an organisation that has been keeping track of the protests for their 54 days, at least 328 individuals have been killed and 14,825 more have been detained in the turmoil. While official media reports that security forces have not killed anyone, Iran's leadership has been mum for weeks over casualty statistics.

Teenage girls and boys and other young people have been at the forefront of protests and altercations with law enforcement on university campuses, high school campuses, and in the streets. The average protester age, according to Iranian authorities, is 15.

But the rights organisations claim that the Islamic Republic is launching its anger at its youth in ways and on a scale that haven't been witnessed during prior rallies that have shook the nation over the past two decades. As a result of the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman, in the morality police's custody in September, the nationwide uprising—which has been mostly driven by women—has seen daily rallies in cities all throughout the nation demanding for an end to the reign of hard-line clerics.

The United Nations reports that 14,000 people have been detained as a result of a larger crackdown on protestors, which includes targeting young people. State media said on Sunday that an unidentified person had received a death sentence for setting a government structure on fire.
