A large lemon producer from Ganga Katri said that 15,000 lemons have been stolen from the orchard. Chaubhi Nishad, a grower of lemons in Ganga Katri, found that 15,000 lemons were stolen from 15 different orchards.
Lemons are grown in about 2000 acres of land in the Chaubeypur, Bithoor, Pariyar, Katri and Mandhana areas of Kanpur. Lemon thieves have increased after soaring prices. Recently, they have struck in Kanpur. In the past four days, thieves have taken away 15,000 lemons weighing 750 kg.
With rising popularity of lemon, lemon growers are hiring guards who use lathis. A guard is paid ₹500 a day to protect the lemons by preventing others from stealing them.In Shivdeen Purwa, Abhishek Nishad is a lemon grower who has issues with 20 unidentified people. Abhishek Nishad found that over the past three days, 2000 lemons were taken away.
A police officer acknowledged that there were two cases of theft, and this is being looked into. He also reported that the price of just one lemon in Phoolbagh market was Rs 10, and the wholesale price in Badshahinaka market was Rs 250 per kg.
After a local green grocer complained about looters stealing onions and garlic, an inspector suggested that the looters may have been motivated by high prices.
