Meghalaya: 31 athletes tested Covid-19 Positive, to attend selection trials in NEHU

On Thursday, 31 Covid-19 positive tests were reported among young athletes between the ages of 11 and 15 who plan to attend the third phase of the selection trials for induction into the Sports Authority India (SAI) training center on the NEHU campus here.

There are 23 cases from East Khasi Hills, three from South West Khasi Hills, four from Ri-Bhoi, and one from West Khasi Hills among the 31 positive cases.

The SAI has made it essential for athletes wanting to compete in the trial to present a negative RTCPR test report at the time of registration.

Under its residential and non-residential plans, trials are being organized for several disciplines such as archery, athletics, boxing, football, and judo.

Joint Director of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Dr. R. Lyngdoh informed that all of the athletes were tested positive during the screening process and that they are asymptomatic.

Despite saying that there was no reason to panic, Dr. Lyngdoh emphasised the importance of understanding that the Covid-19 pandemic has not yet ended.

Among the sports that had selection trials, archery, athletics, boxing, and judo were held on June 13 and 14, while football trials were held today. At the Sports Authority of India, NEHU Campus, Shillong, all trials were conducted.
