The All Meghalaya 4th Teachers’ Association, Garo Hills unit, submitted a reminder of its prior memorandum to Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik on Thursday, as they continue to press for a pay boost and regularisation of services.
The instructors stated in their letter to Malik that they had previously submitted a number of memorandums and applications to the relevant department, but that their appeals had been rejected each time by the authorities.
“We have no choice but to request your assistance in this matter.” We are providing a reminder of the memorandum that was delivered on March 8 of last year. “We hope you will look into our needs and ensure that our long-pending demands are met,” its president and secretary wrote in a combined letter.
The All Garo Hills 4th Teachers Association, which represents 4th grade teachers in the Garo Hills, had previously expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s reluctance to increase their salary despite repeated demands.
The teachers had previously stated that there were no ‘4th Teachers’ in other states such as Assam and Tripura, and had questioned why they were designated as such in Meghalaya. Bemoaning the fact that numerous talks with ministers and other education authorities have always resulted in empty promises.
