Meghalaya: School Students Falls Sick After Taking Iron Tablets in East Khasi Hills

According to reports, consuming iron and folic acid supplements led to the illnesses of several schoolchildren in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district.

The incident was reported from a school in the village of Laitlyngkot in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills region. One of the school’s instructors, Ada Kharpomtiah, told the media that out of the 72 pupils who took the medication, 21 began vomiting and complaining of stomach aches.

The pupils were rushed to the nearby Laitlyngkot Primary Health Center as soon as the matter was brought to the principal’s attention, according to the school’s L Shabong. A report will be sent to the Directorate of Health Services for a thorough enquiry, according to Dr. L. Jaba, who is in charge of Laitlyngkot PHC. He stated that he took a sample of the medication covered by the Weekly Iron Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS).
