On the 21st of January, Meghalaya will celebrate its 50th statehood anniversary. On January 21, the Assembly Secretariat will participate in the golden jubilee commemoration of Meghalaya’s 50 years of statehood with a small event conducted on its premises.
On Sunday, Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh stated that all government processes will be followed throughout the celebration. “The original goal was to have a grand celebration to commemorate this momentous occasion. However, due to the re-imposition of numerous protocols as a result of the rise in COVID-19 cases, the celebration will be on a lower scale presently,” the Speaker added.
Metbah Lyngdoh, the president of the United Democratic Party, stated that because of the third wave, the party will not have any events on January 21. “However, this does not mean that the celebration will take place only on this day,” he stated, adding that “we still have the entire year to honor our 50 years of statehood.”
The party president stated that the construction of the UDP office, which is now under construction, has been ongoing for the past year and is scheduled to be completed by the end of January.
“As you may recall, the party has yet to establish an office. After so many years, finally having a party office will be a huge accomplishment,” the UDP president continued.
