Nagaland Poll Results: Hekani Jakhalu becomes first woman MLA in Nagaland

Hekani Jakhalu, running for the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party in the Dimapur-III constituency, won with a margin of victory of 1536 votes to become the first female MLA in Nagaland. She was one of the four female candidates running for Nagaland Assembly this year.

Leading the initial trends is the governing NDPP-BJP coalition. Votes are still being counted. In Nagaland, elections for the assembly were held on Monday in 59 of the 60 assembly districts, with a turnout of 85.9%. With all 60 parties supporting the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party-led government, Nagaland Assembly is unique in that it lacks any opposition.
