Governor Satyapal Malik of Meghalaya states, “I’ll keep standing up for farmers no matter what the consequences are.” According to him, the BJP has incurred significant losses as a result of the farmers’ demonstrations in Uttar Pradesh and other states. In an exclusive interview with NDTV, he said, “The government should listen to the farmers; they should understand that farmers will not return empty-handed.” He noted that the administration has offered no condolences despite the fact that hundreds of farmers had perished on the outskirts of Delhi during a demonstration against farm rules.
Over the farmers’ plight and the Central Vista project, the Governor recently criticized the Centre and the BJP. Mr. Malik, who was appointed Governor in Jammu and Kashmir and Goa before being moved to Meghalaya during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s term, has been critical of the government.
“Nobody’s father has made me Governor,” he adds in response to those who claim he is speaking out against the Modi government even though he was appointed to the position of Governor by them. He claims that the Prime Minister has appointed him Governor and that if PM Modi orders him to quit, he will do so promptly. He emphasizes that he will continue to speak out for farmers regardless of the consequences. “I was born into a farming family. I have no desire to become Governor. When I initially became Governor, I stated unequivocally that I would not stay in the position for long “He hinted that the Constitutional position would not prevent him from making political comments or criticizing the government.
According to Mr. Malik, the BJP will suffer significant losses in the UP elections, and probably even in the Lok Sabha, as a result of the farmers’ protest.
