Odisha: Student Dies By Suicide Before Board Results Declared; Scores Above 70%

Just an hour before the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examination results were released on Wednesday, a private residential school student in class 10 allegedly committed suicide in Odisha’s Ganjam district, according to police.

They claimed that the 15-year-old girl lit herself on fire at her Digapahandi residence by dousing herself in kerosene. Police rescued her, transported her to the hospital, and then pronounced her dead there.

A police officer stated, “We assume that she may have committed self-immolation out of anxiety over her exam result.” However, the girl passed with a B-1 and earned 421 points out of a possible 600 in the board exams.

Within 24 hours of the results being released on Monday, three students, two of whom were girls, allegedly killed themselves due to their subpar performance in the matriculation or Class 10 board test administered by the Odisha Board of Secondary Education (BSE).
