According to local media, former Japanese prime leader Shinzo Abe was reportedly shot on Friday while giving a campaign address. A guy was then detained for attempted murder. According to national broadcaster NHK, which cited police sources, the man appeared to be in his 40s and a gun had been seized. When contacted by AFP, local police could not immediately provide a statement.
According to AFP, Mr. Abe was rendered unconscious after the attack, which was also reported by the Kyodo news agency.
Local media, according to AFP and other sources, believe that Mr. Abe was shot in the back “with a shotgun” and that he “appears to be in a state of cardio-respiratory arrest.” According to the news agency, it’s “a word used in Japan before a suspected death can be verified by a physician.”
Hirokazu Matsuno, the chief cabinet secretary, stated that he was unaware of Abe’s health. According to the Kyodo news agency and NHK, Abe, 67, seemed to be in cardiac arrest when he was rushed to the hospital.
