Over 800 Indian students in Ukraine were rescued by this young 24 years old pilot from Kolkata
Mahasweta Chakraborty and her parents can be very proud of their daughter right now. As several Indian students studying in Ukraine were stranded in the war-torn country as a result of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia. The Indian government initiated ‘Operation Ganga’ in order to evacuate those stranded students from Ukraine.
Thousands of Indian citizens were evacuated from Ukraine as part of Operation Ganga. Mahasweta Chakraborty, a 24-year pilot with a private Indian carrier, was instrumental in bringing Indian students trapped in war-torn Ukraine home during that operation. Over 800 pupils were evacuated in six flights by the pilot.
Mahasweta, a Kolkata native, has four years of expertise in the aviation industry. Between February 27 and March 7, she travelled six times, the day after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the “special military operation” in Ukraine. During the pandemic, Mahasweta, a brave young girl, was also a member of the Vande Bharat mission. Mahasweta flew oxygen concentrators from abroad and vaccines to Kolkata and other airports from Pune during the Vande Bharat expedition.
However, during the rescue mission in the Ukraine-Russia war , the pilot reflected on her own experiences. “Rescuing those students in their late teens and early twenties, many of whom had fallen sick and had terrible survival stories,” Mahasweta was reported as saying.
The pilot went on to say that she was required to fly an Airbus A320 for 13-14 hours every day. It didn’t matter to her, though, because she was determined to save those students who “re-lived their terror” and had a strong desire to return home.
She also revealed that a 21-year-old female experienced seizures as a result of the stressful circumstance. “I’ll never forget the moment she held my hand in a semi-conscious state and simply asked me to take her to her mother,” Mahasweta Chakraborty said.
“I received a call late at night from my airline informing me that I had been selected for the rescue mission. She said, “I packed in two hours and left.”
Mahasweta’s bravery, as well as her passion for the country and its people, is very inspirational. She is a courageous woman who did not back down from her aim of saving Indians from the war-torn Ukraine. She also demonstrated women’s power, demonstrating that a woman can accomplish everything she sets her mind to.
