Pakistan was pummeling by intense rain. In order to address the monsoon flooding, which the government claimed had impacted more than four million people, it declared an emergency on Friday.
More than 900 people have died this year as a result of the monsoon rains that started in June, according to the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), including 34 in the past 24 hour.
The greatest floods on record, which claimed over 2,000 lives and submerged about a fifth of the nation in 2010, according to officials, are comparable to this year’s flooding.
Nearly 220,000 homes were demolished and another 500,000 suffered severe damage, according to the disaster service, which estimated that over 4.2 million people were “affected” by the flooding. The provincial disaster office reported that two million acres of farmed crops had been destroyed in Sindh alone.
