PM on Birbhum violence: ‘Assure help, hope state will take action against culprits’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences on Wednesday to the families of the victims of the Birbhum violence, which erupted in West Bengal a day ago and claimed the lives of at least eight people. In relation to the case, Modi also offered the Bengal administration, led by Mamata Banerjee, all available assistance from the Union government.
“I’m sorry about the violence in Birbhum, WB.” I assure you that whatever assistance is required to bring criminals to justice, I will provide it from the federal level to the state level. “I hope the state government takes stern action against the perpetrators, and those who aid and abet such criminals should not be forgiven,” Modi said.

Following the killing of a TMC panchayat chairman in Rampurhat in West Bengal’s Birbhum district on Monday late night, several houses were set on fire, killing nine people, including children. Many villagers in the community fled their homes in terror of the catastrophe unfolding right in front of their eyes.
