Pradyot Kishore Debbarma made a big announcement in Tripura

Royal scion and Tipra Motha Chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarma has made a big announcement that his party will contest on at least 30 of the total 60 seats in the next Assembly elections in Tripura.

He made the announcement when big political players like BJP, Trinamool Congress as well as the Left were left speculating over his party’s next move.

Meanwhile, Debbarma asserted that his party Tipra Motha will not ally with any party unless they commit in written to the Greater Tipraland demand.

He also said that the term “Khela Hobe” has no meaning for his party unless the Greater Tipraland demand is not taken into account.

He also said that “he is not interested in what Trinamool or BJP does, neither is he interested in CPM. We play our own game and let them play their own game. “Khela hobe or Naa Hobe” or BJPs Khela hobe, I am not interested at all”.

“We are interested in Greater Tipraland and if they want to (Khale hobe) play with us then let them give us in writing whether we will get Greater Tipraland demand or not, and if not then all 19 tribes alone will contest 30 seats in the upcoming Assembly elections”, he added.

However, Debbarma was formerly a member of the Congress Party and was appointed as Tripura’s Congress state president in 2019. He resigned the same year because of differences with the party regarding the National Register of Citizens and the Citizenship Amendment Act.

In December 2019, Debbarma announced the launch of TIPRA as a social organization aiming to work for the rights of indigenous people. In February 2021, he stated that TIPRA would contest the TTAADC polls as a political party.

Meanwhile, on 10 April, a newly formed political party swept the elections in Tripura’s Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council. The Tipraha Indigenous People’s Regional Alliance or TIPRA, won 18 of the 28 contested seats, defeating the state’s ruling alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura. TIPRA was founded as a political party on 5 February by Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma.
