Restricting Access to the Internet: West Bengal suspended internet in 7 districts to prevent unlawful activity.
West Bengal government announced the suspension of internet services for eight days in order to prevent unlawful activities by suspending telecommunication through the internet and data communications as a preventive measure in seven districts.
The West Bengal government has received intelligence reports that there will be unlawful activities in certain areas of the state. To prevent the unlawful activity from occurring, the government has suspended internet in 7 districts looking out for suspicious patterns to emerge.
The West Bengali government has imposed internet restrictions in seven of Bengal’s districts due to fears of unlawful online activities. The Additional Chief Secretary, Home and Hill Affairs Department, WB, in a statement said \”the government has received intelligence reports that unlawful activities can be carried out over internet transmissions and voice over internet telephony and hence restrictions are being imposed on the use of the internet.\”
Uttar Dinajpur District in West Bengal installs internet restrictions for a duration of March 7th to 9th and March 15th to 16th. A press release stated the restriction will be imposed for two different periods in blocks under the districts of Malda, Murshidabad, Uttar Dinajpur, Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Birbhum, Darjeeling from 11:00 am to 3:15 pm.
