According to Pakistani media reports, Shari Baloch, the suicide bomber who killed three Chinese nationals at the University of Karachi on Tuesday, was a primary school teacher and intellectual. The 30-year-old mother of two young children had sent a goodbye note on her Twitter account ten hours before the attack. The explosion, which was set off by a Baloch woman, smashed through a van belonging to the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi, killing three Chinese teachers and injuring one, as well as injuring several Pakistanis.
Shari was a primary school teacher in the Kech district of Balochistan. She earned a masters in zoology from the University of Balochistan and an MPhil from the Muhammad Iqbal Open University after completing her B.Ed and M.Ed degrees in 2014.
Her father worked for the government as a director and was a three-year member of the district council. Baloch’s spouse works as a dentist, while her brother-in-law is an academic lecturer. According to PTI, one of her uncles is a novelist, a former professor, and a human rights activist.
“Shari joined Majeed Brigade two years ago and volunteered for a mission of self-sacrifice. She was given time to reconsider her decision, as per Brigade’s standard operating procedure. Shaari served in several Majeed Brigade units during the course of these two years “In a statement, the Balochistan Liberation Army said.
