Tensions are high in Shivamogga, Karnataka, after a 26-year-old member of the right-wing Bajrang Dal was stabbed to death last night.
Following arson occurrences, police have been deployed in considerable numbers, and public gatherings have been banned by the authorities. For the time being, the district’s schools and universities will be closed.
State minister KS Eshwarappa made divisive remarks and claimed that the Opposition Congress gave strength to Muslim gangs in the aftermath of the assassination.
However, authorities have rejected claims that Harsha, a 26-year-old Bajrang Dal member, was killed in connection with the ongoing controversy over students wearing hijab on campus, which sparked fury in the state last week. In Shivamogga district, a case has been filed at the Doddapete police station.

Harsha was allegedly assaulted by at least four people at 9 p.m. last night, according to police. He was brought to the hospital with serious injuries but died.
Unidentified persons set fire to multiple vehicles in Shivamogga shortly after the attack. The city’s images revealed burned autos and a large police presence. Police in riot gear marched through the neighbourhood to prevent a riot over the attack.
