The Bridge Designed Nearly Five Hundred Years Ago By Leonardo Da Vinci, “The Bridge Of Safety”
The video shows a demonstration of how the da Vinci bridge can be constructed using only 9 sticks putting wood on top of it and over that wood a stone to imply the weight it can clasp.
The bridge was originally designed by Leonardo da Vinci in 1502. It was 240 meters long and should be above the Bosphorus The Golden Horn, but was never built. The bridge in Ås is reduced to 108 meters.
This unique design is held together by its weight without requiring any ties or connections, in fact when a downward force is applied to the braced members are forced to interlock and tighten together through the structural concepts of shear and bending. Da Vinci called it “The Bridge of Safety”.
