After an absence of a few years, the Dalai Lama, the head of Tibetan Buddhism, gave special prayers at the Mahabodhi temple in Bodh Gaya on Friday. The Nobel Peace Prize laureate resumed his yearly journey of Bodh Gaya on Thursday after it had been postponed for a number of years owing to the pandemic. The Buddhist leader is expected to stay in Bodh Gaya for about a month, where he will deliver speeches to the public from December 29 to December 31. The Dalai Lama commuted from the Tibetan monastery where he is staying using a battery-driven automatic automobile, according to Arvind Singh, a member of the Bodh Gaya Temple Management Trust.

While travelling, he was greeted by a sizable group of Buddhist monks and lay followers. Once at the temple, priests led him to the sanctum sanctorum.

The Mahabodhi Temple is located where Buddha is reputed to have attained Enlightenment more than 2,000 years ago. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
