The “Queen of Melody” Lata Mangeshkar is no more; A Huge loss for India
India lost Lata Mangeshkar, the queen of melody for whom the term “playback vocalist” is an understatement, passed away in Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. She was 92 years old at the time. After testing positive with COVID-19, Ms Mangeshkar was admitted to the intensive care unit on Tuesday. Her condition has been critical since the day before yesterday.
Lata Mangeshkar, who received the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards, was an icon of Indian cinema, having sung playback for a long list of Hindi films, as well as in Marathi and Bengali. Ms Mangeshkar, who came from a well-known musical family, also composed music and produced a few films. The ‘Nightingale of India,’ as she was nicknamed, was a well-known figure in India.
She was a true jewel who will always be irreplaceable; losing her is a big loss that no Indian can comprehend. Her death was mourned by people from all walks of life, including musicians, politicians, athletes, and members of the general public. She sent honours to India, her motherland. Her motherland may be actually crying as well.
President of India expressed his condolence says “as it is for million world over”.
