Former Indian cricket captain Mohammad Azharuddin, who was in Shillong for the Senior Men Challengers Cup 2020 finals on April 9 at Polo Ground, stated that infrastructure was essential for the State and the North East to flourish in cricket.
He was pleased with the development of cricket in the North East. He further suggested that because of the state’s favorable climate, a training camp for the Indian national team be constructed in the city.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya Cricket Association organized its inaugural gala Awards Night on Saturday to honor Meghalaya players’ efforts and services while competing in various BCCI competitions throughout the 2021-22 season.
Former Indian Test captain and President of the Hyderabad Cricket Association Mohammad Azharuddin, senior MCA officials, and other dignitaries attended the ceremony, which was hosted at the State Convention Centre.
Manish Sharma (U-19 boys), Abhishek Kumar (U-25 men), Chirag Khurana (Senior Men), Ajima Sangma (Senior Women), Punit Singh Bisht (Senior Men), Kevin S Christopher (U-19 boys), and Purav Agarwal (U-19 boys) were the seven individual award winners (U-19 boys).
DB Ravi Teja was also praised for his work as a guest professional for Meghalaya cricket. Following Meghalaya’s final Ranji Trophy match of the season against Gujarat, Teja announced his retirement from the Indian domestic circuit last month. He’d got a century to cap off a successful Ranji career.
