Due to a salmonella epidemic, the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have advised people to throw away all unlabeled red, white, and yellow onions. The outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg infection has sickened hundreds of people in 37 states, according to the US FDA. The FDA stated onions imported from Chihuahua, Mexico, and distributed by ProSource Inc. were one source of contamination.
ProSource Inc. has agreed to recall red, yellow, and white onions imported from the Mexican state of Chihuahua between July 1 and August 27, 2021.
So far, 652 people have reported becoming sick, with 129 of them being admitted to the hospital. There haven’t been any confirmed deaths. The actual number of persons who became ill, according to the CDC, is likely to be substantially higher, with the majority of cases going unnoticed. Between May 31 and September 30, infections were documented.
Salmonellosis causes diarrhea, fever, and stomach pains in the majority of patients, according to the FDA. Salmonellosis can cause a high temperature, pains, headaches, lethargy, a rash, blood in the urine or stool, and can even be fatal in certain situations.
Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause gastroenteritis and a fever, which is known as salmonellosis.
Salmonellosis infections are more common in children under the age of five, the elderly, and persons with compromised immune systems.
Restaurants, retailers, and consumers were asked not to eat, sell, or serve red, yellow, or white onions imported from the Mexican state of Chihuahua from July 1, 2021, to August 27, 2021, or goods containing such onions, according to the US government.
