US: Shooting at Colorado gay nightclub kills five, injures 18
Castro did not make it clear whether the suspect was among among those hurt in the incident.
Police in Colorado Springs, Colorado, reported that a shooting at a gay bar on Saturday left at least five people dead and 18 more hurt. Police rushed to the scene at Club Q after receiving many 911 calls beginning at 11:57 p.m., according to Colorado Springs Police Lt. Pamela Castro.
"We did find one person inside, who we believe to be the culprit", according to Castro. The suspect is now being treated, but is in custody.
Castro did not make it clear whether the suspect was among among those hurt in the incident.
Club Q issued a social media statement in which it expressed its "devastation by the terrible attack on our community" and expressed its sympathies to the victims and their families.
The statement continued, "We commend the swift efforts of heroic bystanders who stopped the gunman and ended this hate attack. Police have not yet disclosed the specifics of how the shooting ended, however Castro claimed that "this was not an officer-involved shooting."
