Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas claims she discussed women’s rights, especially the right to vote, with US vice president Kamala Harris recently.
When Harris participated in the DNC’s Women’s Leadership Forum gathering on Friday, the actor spoke with her about it.
Chopra Jonas detailed her conversations with Harris in a long statement that she uploaded on Instagram along with a number of pictures and videos from the conference.
The power of women has been diminished throughout history. We’ve been ignored and silenced, but because of the sacrifices and perseverance of so many selfless women, we are now in a position to unite and work as a group to make things right.
The 40-year-old actor added, “This was a crucial takeaway from the discussion I had the pleasure to chair with @vp, Kamala Harris at the Women’s Leadership Forum conference in Washington, DC, last night.”
According to Chopra Jonas, the previous two years have seen humanity face some of the greatest difficulties.
“Stability and growth are urgently needed, and for America, that process begins on November 8th with the election. Each person has a part to play in that. Participate in civic life and exercise your right to vote, especially if you’re a woman because you need to be involved to make sure your rights are upheld, “Added she.
The star claimed that while she is not allowed to vote in the US, both her husband Nick Jonas and daughter Malti Marie Jonas will cast ballots.
Despite the fact that I don’t vote here, my husband and, eventually, my daughter will. The most urgent challenges, which require a clear vision and plan to be handled, were the focus of my talk with VP Harris, Chopra Jonas stated.
She stated earlier in her speech that while it is not the case in the US, women in India have been able to hold the highest political seats.
“It is so perplexing to me that in this country (US), the great land of so much opportunity and so much revolution, we have not seen that final glass ceiling shattered,” Chopra Jonas said. “From our first-twice elected Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1966 to our current President Droupadi Murmu.
The first woman, Black American, and South Asian American to be elected vice president of the United States is Harris.
In terms of work, Chopra Jonas most recently appeared in “The Matrix Resurrections,” a film starring Keanu Reeves. She will next appear alongside Sam Heughan in the television series “Citadel” and “It’s All Coming Back To Me” from The Russo Brothers.
