On Saturday morning, three more Air Force C-17 planes arrived in the country, carrying Indians stuck in Ukraine back to India through Romania, Slovakia, and Poland. These planes set out on Friday evening carrying 16.5 tonnes of humanitarian supplies from India for the war-torn Ukraine, where over 1 million people have been displaced since last week. Under the government’s ‘Operation Ganga,’ the Air Force has flown ten planes to return 2,056 citizens to safety. A total of 26 tonnes of humanitarian aid has been supplied to Ukraine and its neighbouring nations, who are also affected by the conflict.
Meanwhile, the Centre announced on Friday that it is trying to evacuate Indians from Ukraine’s war-torn cities of Kharkiv and Sumy. “Our efforts are concentrated in eastern Ukraine, particularly in Kharkiv and Pisochin. Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated, “We were able to get several buses there, and five of them are now operational.”
