45 Indians were freed from false job scams in Myanmar by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). 13 of these Indians have arrived in Tamil Nadu, according to MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi. He added that other Indian people had been freed from their fraudulent employers and were being held by Myanmar’s government, and that legal action had been taken to ensure their prompt repatriation.
Details of agents allegedly involved in this job racket have been submitted with the competent authorities in several Indian states, according to Bagchi. According to a report by ANI, victims were typically carried illegally across the border into Myanmar and made to labor under severe conditions while held captive.
Bagchi added that Laos and Cambodia have also received reports of similar incidents, and that the Indian embassies in Vientiane, Phnom Penh, and Bangkok are assisting with the repatriation processes.
Prior to traveling overseas on a tourist or visitor visa for employment-related reasons and/or accepting a job offer, the MEA recommended job candidates to verify the history and current credentials of the foreign employers and companies through the relevant Indian Missions abroad. People were also urged to look into the recruiting agents’ track record.
