A speeding bus collided with an oil tanker in Pakistan, killing 20 people in a fiery crash overnight, police and rescue officials said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on August 16 at 4 a.m local time ( 4:30 a.m IST) at motorway obarra junobi crash before dawn near the central city of Multan, about 540 kilometers south of the capital, Islamabad.
The bus was moving from Lahore to Karachi. However, on the way, the bus hit an oil Tanker from the back side and fire erupted leading to 6 people getting injured and 20 people died on the spot.
“Three buses were racing. One of them rammed into an oil tanker,” police official Imran Shaukat told Reuters, describing the incident on a motorway near the central city of Multan.
The crash triggered a fire that engulfed both the tanker and the bus, he said. The oil tanker was beyond identification to determine what company it belongs to, he said. A spokesman for the motorway police said the tanker’s driver fled the scene.
