Seven border police officers died today in Jammu and Kashmir after the bus they were riding in went off a road and plunged into a river.
The bus accident at Chandanwari in the Anantnag district is thought to have been caused by brake failure, and at least 32 other passengers have been injured.
When the event occurred, the bus—carrying 41 members of the security forces—was travelling from Chandanwari to Pahalgam. Of these, 39 were from the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and two were from the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
“Six ITBP soldiers were killed and several others were injured in a road accident in the Anantnag region; these victims are currently being transported to an army hospital in Srinagar for treatment.

Following the tragedy, up to 19 ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and the local government launched a significant rescue effort.
According to Piyush Singla, Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag, medical teams at the Government Medical College, the district hospital, and the sub divisional hospital in Seer have been placed on high alert.
While the victims’ bodies were kept at the Pahalgam Civil Hospital, those who sustained serious injuries were given first assistance and sent to GMC Anantnag.
The security personnel were returning from Amarnath Yatra duty.
