After failing "virginity test," in-laws cruelly tormented a rape survivor

In the Bhilwara area of Rajasthan, a 24-year-old bride is said to have been harassed, assaulted, and made to take a virginity test. The rape victim's family was also subjected to a punishment of 10 lakh by the khap panchayat after she failed the test.

She is a member of the Sansi tribe, which is said to practise the Kukadi pratha (virginity test).
According to the custom, the family of the male receives a payment of Rs. 10 lakh if the girl fails the test.

According to deputy superintendent of police Surrendra Kumar, the girl has filed a case alleging that her neighbour sexually assaulted her in the past.
She got married on May 11, 2022, and had to go through Kukadi pratha.

The police official asserts that her father-in-law is a head constable and was aware of the event involving the girl. She was asked to put up with such humiliation, torment, and harassment despite being aware of everything. Her suffering was made public and the Khap (community) panchayat was convened.

On Sunday, a case was filed at the Bagor police station under IPC sections 498A (coercing a woman to meet an unlawful demand), 384 (extortion), 509 (insulting the modesty of women), and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
