Assam: Vineet Bagaria’s Suicide Case, accused house demolished after structure found “illegal”
In the early hours of Tuesday morning in the Upper Assam town of Ghoramara, the Dibrugarh district administration razed the home of Baidulla Khan, a significant defendant in the suicide case of Vineet Bagaria.
Four days ago, the district administration served Baidullah Khan with an eviction notice on the grounds that his two-story building was built illegally, was vulnerable, and as a result was “unsafe” for the occupants and nearby residents. The drastic action under the Disaster Management Act was taken in response to that notice.
In addition, rules like the APDCL’s have been broken. However, Baidullah and the residents of the house did not respond to the warning, thus the demolition drive went ahead.
G.P. Singh, the special DGP for law and order in Assam, who is in Dibrugarh to monitor the investigation’s development, said that the Dibrugarh district government had conducted a thorough assessment and study of any property possessed by “musclemen” who might have gained it illegally.
Singh, who had visited the family of animal rights activist Vineet on Monday, told the media that “it was found that this structure (of Baidullah Khan) was illegally constructed and after there was no response to the notice issued on July 8 the district administration today conducted the eviction drive.”
The special DGP also disclosed that Baidullah Khan was in charge of a cartel and operating an illicit money-lending operation.
Earlier this week, Vineet hanged himself to death in his Dibrugarh home on Shani Mandir Road. A video of him claiming that Baidullah Khan, Sanjay Sharma and Nishant Sharma physically and mentally tortured him and his family had been recorded before his death.
