Bengaluru engineer hacks IndiGo website to trace lost luggage after multiple complaints to the airline
Ever felt panicked because you couldn’t find your bags at the airport where you were supposed to be? Lost luggage and luggage swaps are horrible scenarios. Nandan Kumar, a Bengaluru-based software engineer, chose not to be panicked and instead used his technological abilities to locate his luggage.
On an IndiGo Airlines flight, Kumar was flying from Patna to Bengaluru. Because the two suitcases were almost identical, his luggage was accidentally swapped with that of another guest.
He attempted to contact IndiGo Airlines customer service after returning home. Because of their privacy and data protection requirements, the airlines employees refused to furnish him with the details of his co-passenger. The agent, on the other hand, informed him that after speaking with the other passenger, he will call him. Kumar, on the other hand, did not receive such a call.
He decided to take command of the situation after waiting for an entire night. Kumar began by putting his smart technological abilities to work. He attempted to obtain information about the traveller using his PNR (Passenger Name Record), but was unable. He then decided to try hacking into IndiGo’s official website in order to locate his missing bags.
According to Kumar’s Twitter thread, he pushed the F12 key on his computer keyboard and opened the developer console on the website to collect his co-contact passenger’s information as his programming instinct kicked in. He then decided to try and find his lost luggage by hacking into IndiGo’s official website.
He eventually tracked out the second passenger, who happened to reside nearby. Then they arranged to meet at a midpoint and swap luggage.
IndiGo had responded to Kumar’s Twitter message with an apology, expressing regret for the inconvenience and assuring him that the website’s security framework was ‘strong.’
