The Union Health Ministry wrote to seven states – Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana – in response to an increase in coronavirus cases, requesting that they ensure adequate testing, promote Covid-appropriate behaviour, and speed up vaccination rates in order to quickly and effectively stop the viral infection’s spread.
In a letter to these seven states, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan issued a warning about the likelihood of infectious illness transmission being high due to impending festivities and large gatherings in many areas of the nation.
Furthermore, he instructed these governments to increase testing while retaining the recommended proportion of RT-PCR and antigen tests. Bhushan emphasised in the letter dated August 5 that districts with higher case counts should be closely watched to stop the illness from spreading further and to provide efficient case treatment.
On Saturday, 19,406 new coronavirus infections were reported in India. With 1,34,793 reduced active cases, the aggregate total fell to 4,41,26,994. Delhi contributed 8.2% of India’s weekly new cases in the week ending August 5, and its average daily new cases increased by 1.86 times, going from 802 the week before July 29 to 1,492 the following week. Maharashtra recorded 2,135 cases, and Kerala reported 2,347 cases, on average, per day over the preceding month.
