Around midday on Tuesday, a truck hauling stones from an unauthorized mining site in the Aravalis struck and killed a 59-year-old deputy superintendent of the Haryana Police when he stopped it and ordered the driver to halt in the Pachgaon hamlet of Nuh.
According to the police, DSP (Tauru) Surender Singh Bishnoi departed right away in the police car, a Bolero, with the gunman, Umesh, assistant police inspector (ASI) Sanjay Kumar, and Amit, his driver, after receiving a report regarding the activities of the mining mafia in the area about 11.30 am.
The truck driver attempted to flee toward one of the hillocks after realizing he was being pursued by police by casting rocks in their path to impede the police car, but the driver of the Bolero was able to go around the obstructions and catch up. Mittar and Ikkar threatened the police squad while being confined to the truck and cornered.
“They warned one another that if they are caught today, they will go to jail. When the police stopped their car, they responded, “Let’s show them (them) the consequences,” ASI Kumar stated in a later complaint. “After that, Mittar hit the pedal and sped the truck towards us with an intention to kill. Amit, Umesh, and I managed to jump out of the way. The DSP also tried to, but the truck hit him and crushed him,” Kumar stated.
Hours after the officer’s death, police said a man allegedly involved in the killing was arrested after being shot at and injured during an encounter with them. The Community Health Center (CHC) Nuh, where Surender Singh’s postmortem examination was completed as per reports.
Surender Singh was hired by the Haryana Police in 1994 as an assistant-sub inspector, according to the police. He was serving as DSP Tauru at the time and was set to retire in four months.
He currently resided in Kurukshetra with his family and was a native of the Hisar village of Sarangpur.
The mining mafia is renowned for attacking police officers in Nuh area. Since 2015, 50 of these complaints have been filed annually on average.
