Hunger strike from December 1st by the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association; Meghalaya

The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has decided to hold a hunger strike in front of the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tura on December 1 in protest of the State Government’s reluctance to heed their demands for the release of their outstanding salary.

The teachers’ association, in announcing their strike on Friday, criticized the administration for its indifference to their demands for the release of delayed salaries, which they had expressed repeatedly. It stated that SSA teachers had the same status as daily wage workers and that the teachers were dying from malnutrition rather than the pandemic. It should be noted that SSA teachers’ paychecks have been outstanding since June, and they expect to get them in full before the Christmas holidays.
