State-sponsored, private colleges may not have to take the CUET in Meghalaya: Conrad Sangma
It is most likely that students in private colleges and colleges aided by the state government across Meghalaya will not have to appear for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) to gain admission to undergraduate programmes.
Following the meeting between Conrad Sangma and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi today, it was decided to exempt these colleges from following the new system.
“When I expressed the concerns of the students and colleges, the Minister understood the problem and responded positively,” Sangma said. “They have agreed that there will be certain areas in which they will try to exempt some of our colleges that are not necessarily centrally-funded – privately or aided through the state government – those will not have to appear for the exam.”
According to the CM, the state government awaits an official communication from the Centre, which is expected in the next few days.
CUET will not be required for students who study in these colleges, we hope. The response is positive, and we will await official communication from them in order to inform everyone,” he said.
