ICC T20I Rankings: India becomes World number one after 6 years

Following their 3-0 series victory against West Indies, India on Sunday has claimed the top spot becoming the World number one in the ICC men’s T20 International Team ranking after 6 years on Monday.

As per the latest updates, India is on top of the rankings with 10,484 points and 269 rating points. England is second with 10,474 points and 269 rating points. India has won nine T20I matches in a row.

The last time Team India held the top ranking was under the leadership of MS Dhoni in early 2016. India has bounced back after facing humiliation in the ICC T20 World Cup. They defeated New Zealand 3-0 under Rohit Sharma and now with another dominating performance, the Men in Blue have scripted consecutive whitewash victories in the bilateral T20I series.

This was India’s sixth whitewash series win in the slam-bang version of the game, four of which have come under Rohit Sharma.

England being at the top 2nd in the T20 team ranking list, with the side now matching the top rating of 269 with India. India last attained the number one spot back in 2016, a reign that lasted a little over two months.

Suryakumar Yadav’s 65-run knock was backed up by a spirited bowling performance as India defeated West Indies in the third and final T20I. Harshal Patel returned with three wickets while Venkatesh Iyer also got two wickets.
