The state BJP has been given assurances from Governor Satya Pal Malik that Bernard N. Marak’s case will be subject to an impartial investigation.
The West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe and Superintendent of Police Vivekananda Singh Rathore should be removed for allowing a free and fair investigation, state BJP leaders demanded in a demonstration in front of the party office on Monday before meeting with the governor.
After meeting with the governor and submitting a memo, state BJP president Ernest Mawrie stated Malik promised to commision an impartial investigation in a statement to the media.
The BJP leaders informed the Governor that the harassment of party members following the action against Marak was “clearly an act of political revenge.”
“In Meghalaya, this vendetta is a first of its type. We worry that this would usher in a spiteful political climate in our state, Mawrie said, querying why certain media people had joined the police team on the raid on July 22.
