Mizoram's contribution to India's efforts to engage with its neighbours: Prez

President Droupadi Murmu, who was in Mizoram for two days, said on Friday that the tribal majority state benefits from and contributes to the nation's efforts to engage with regional neighbours. She stated during a special assembly session here that Mizoram may research its past, uncover excellent governance techniques from pre-modern times, and revive them within modern systems for the sake of people.

She also noted that the Mizoram Legislative Assembly "has matured into an effective instrument in seeking solutions to people's problems" throughout the years. Murmu added that she would want to see more women in public life, particularly among parliamentarians. "The Centre's 'Act East Policy' focuses on the northeast in order to strengthen the country's ties with its Asia-Pacific neighbours. Mizoram benefits from and contributes to the nation's effort to connect with its neighbours in the area "she explained.

Murmu stated that the state performed well across the board, despite the challenges provided by the state's rugged terrain. "Since becoming a full-fledged state in 1987, Mizoram has not looked back." The steep terrain presents unique development problems; yet, the state has performed admirably across the board, particularly in terms of human development. "As a tribal-majority state, Mizoram may investigate its past and discover best governance approaches from pre-modern times that can be revived inside modern systems," she said.

She highlighted that Mizoram has the largest forest cover of any Indian state, making it an excellent home for amazing and diverse biodiversity. "Our numerous activities promoting sustainable energy sources have earned worldwide acclaim." Meanwhile, we must work at our particular levels to assist repair the earth, whether we are citizens, policymakers, legislators, or administrators. While accepting new ways, we must also stay connected to our heritage. Mizoram, as a tribal-majority state, can "examine its past and identify exemplary governance models from pre-modern times that may be revived within modern institutions," the President underlined.

Murmu was especially moved by the warm reception she received in Mizoram. "India celebrates its diversity. The north-eastern states offer a distinctive richness to that variation. You are among those who see the rising sun first, putting you ahead of the rest of the Indians "She said. The President, who is coming for the first time, is expected to attend events in Sikkim later in the day.
