Jens Stoltenberg, the secretary-general of NATO, has advocated for a balanced approach to the escalating tensions over Ukraine. He stated that the coalition had no plans to send troops into the nation to fight. Stoltenberg went on to say that the situation was “very serious” and that “countries must continue to work toward a political solution.”
Russian troops, tanks, artillery, and missiles have been stationed near Ukraine’s border, but the country denies ambitions to attack the former Soviet republic, which shares borders with both Russia and the EU.
“We have no plans to deploy NATO combat forces to Ukraine… we are focusing on giving support,” Stoltenberg said on BBC Television when asked if he would rule out putting NATO troops in Ukraine if Russia invaded.
