The more time kids spend on social media, the more stories and ideas they are exposed to that they want to investigate. When young people observe someone obtaining attention by self-harming, they imitate without hesitation. They do it to showcase their courage or because they are suffering from mental illness.

When they start spreading suicide methods and encouraging others to commit suicide, the problem becomes even worse. Suicide is contagious, according to studies and case studies, and it can spread through social networks. When a person witnesses a suicide attempt or death, it increases the likelihood of suicidal thoughts and attempts in that individual.

Self-esteem becomes low.

After spending time on social media, most teen girls begin to compare themselves to superstars, wishing to appear slender, beautiful, and wealthy like them. In adolescence, it is common for teenagers to imitate people they respect or regard as role models. This mimicry may harm their self-esteem and dignity.

Deprivation of sleep

In today’s world, social media is one of the top causes of sleep deprivation in teenagers. They are always concerned about what their pals publish and share. If they are not persuaded to quit, adolescents can stay engaged on social media for longer periods. A greater period of time spent on a mobile device can also have a negative impact on sleep.

Fake Friends

Fake online friends are on the rise. For evil purposes, many strangers utilise social media to form acquaintances. When they become close, they typically obtain large sums of money through dubious means.

In a recent incident, a woman was accused of being robbed of over Rs 32 lakh by someone she met on Instagram in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli district. The ‘buddy’ stated that he was from the United Kingdom.

The woman was told that a “present” and some “foreign currency” worth Rs 45 lakh had arrived in Delhi for her from the UK and that she would have to pay a fee to get it.

The Treatment for Addiction to Social Media

It is our job to talk about social media detox with a teenager who is addicted to it. Allow children to see that there is a world outside of social media. They may be harmed if they utilise social media regularly. There are certain indicators that you should take a break from social media. Every adult should encourage teenagers to become involved in beneficial activities. The bad repercussions of social media could lead to their carrier’s demise. And this is the age when they should focus on the future, construct their future, and have a bright future ahead of them.

Spend more time with your children as a parent so they don’t feel lonely and turn to social media.
Take them on a vacation and discuss their carriers and how important they are. Rather of being a pretend friend to them, be a true one.
